Brake Testing for HGV's

It is compulsory for any vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to get a brake test to ensure they are in a safe condition. Your vehicle must be loaded for a brake test - ideally to at least 65% of its total maximum weight. It can only be tested unladen if it cannot be loaded due to design limitations or the type of load it normally carries.
Brakes should be tested at least 4 times a year with one test carried out at your MOT.

Faulty brakes pose a severe risk on the road for both yourself and other road users. Regular HGV brake testing ensures you are safe and compliant. It is a mandatory requirement by the DVSA to have your brakes tested.

If your brakes are tested regularly, you can ensure they are working efficiently which will help minimise stopping distances and prevent accidents.

Early detection of brake issues will also prevent breakdowns and costly repairs.
